Bowers & Wilkins PX8
If you want a pair of headphones that stand out but still sound great, we suggest the Bowers & Wilkins PX8, of the kind that we named “extraordinary” in our review. When we tested them, something magical happened, and humans did write: “To put such earbuds on is to experience a feeling of ownership stopped feeling, even at this level.”
Not only is the build excellent, but the noise is absolutely stunning in terms of detail, clarity, energy, and agility. When tried to compare to a Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless, we found the PX8 to be in a different league due to its energy, depth, and immersion. They have an incredible sound.
Of course, that’s not a completely fair comparison given that they cost twice as much as the Momentum 4. At $699 / £599 / AU$1150, they’re exorbitantly priced—even more than the already exorbitantly priced Apple AirPods Max.
Sony WH-CH510
If you like the concept of Sony wireless earbuds but do not require a tall, high-end set such as the Sony WH-1000XM4 headsets above, the Sony WH-CH510 earbuds are a much affordable option that comes with all of the features that most people will require.
The Sony WH-CH510 provides solid audio, lengthy battery life, as well as Bluetooth connectivity, making them an excellent value at $59 / £50 / AU$89. They lack the spec wise or regularity range of headsets costing nearly 10 times as much at this price, but they’re an outstanding pair of any and all for a very reasonable price.
Because these are on-ear earbuds instead of over-ears, the soundstage isn’t as immersive as it would be with a couple of over-ears.
Apple AirPods Max
The Apple AirPods Max have been the most eagerly anticipated headphones in years, and they did not disappoint when they finally arrived. The Apple AirPods Max have a lot to offer. The breakout star active noise cancellation, simply fantastic sound quality, and a layout that sets people against the majority of sound headphones on the market were the things we rated greatest during our testing.
However, while one‘s exceptional sound achievement and class-leading ANC wowed us during our time with these headphones, they were let down by their exorbitant price and insufficient support for Hi-Res Audio codecs. What’s perplexing is that, despite their expensive price, the AirPods Max aren’t specifically aimed at audiophiles. They’d have such a 3.5mm sound port if they were.
